WHY HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

POSTED BY SALLY DAILEY: 01/16/2018

This is something that is in the foreground of my thoughts when I meet a potential client for the first time.

An exceptional designer is- half artist / half psychologist! Hire the best that you can afford! I say this because it takes courage for you to make that initial contact for help in your living or working space. You’ve probably gotten resistance, from family and friends, to spending money on what may be considered "frivolous."

“Oh Betsy, you have always had a knack for decorating, you can do this yourself." But can Betsy make it exceptional and the best money spent to amplify the beauty, function and increase the value of her largest asset? Time for the professionals!!!

My intention with the following notes is to explain why I think hiring “the RIGHT” designer is essential.

Your home or business in one of your largest investments and assets. Next to church, it is your sanctuary that supports the majority of your life! As you enter, it should immediately bring a rush of good feelings, a sense of calm and nurture you. For a minimal investment, you can amplify your sense of well being from a professional assessment of what makes you tick! Do you get a high when you purchase a new car, purse or cellphone? Most likely you would answer... Yes!!!!! You do because it looks different and new, it smells new and helps you perform better. Why would you not spend to do this for your largest asset?

WHY HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER CONTINUED

A professional designer can come in and take a so so space and with a little or a lot of change-transform your daily life. If you fear the cost, you need to ask the designer to asses your space and give you a definite fee. They should also provide a Design Proposal that specifies the scope of the project, step by step of what the designer will provide you to complete the project, and the exact fee you will pay them for this service. Excellence is not free, be weary of “free” services. Trust me, free design does not mean you have just won the Design Lottery.

Lastly, the client and designer make this legal by signing the contract.

Now it is off to the races. A qualified designer brings you the following:

> A keen assessment of the changes you desire.

> A full service strategy providing you drawings, color palette, photos of furnishings, accessories, and anything that takes you from Drab to Fab.

> A budget and timeline to complete the project. This helps you prioritize what you can buy.

> Then, the designer manages all contractors, ordering of articles and most importantly, the designer keeps you informed of all things transpiring day to day so you know where your project is at all times.

The designer and crew are in your personal and sacred space; it is the designer’s job to make these changes as easy as possible so you can continue functioning as these changes occur, keep the project on track and in the end…give you Pure Magic!!!!!!
