Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? In this hustle and bustle world, your home should be pure joy to your eyes, every time you enter!
I have a few easy tips to help you create a less cluttered, functional space!
Take a hard look at the rooms in your home. (I suggest taking photos of your space. Print them off for review.) This method removes the emotion you share of your home, and gives you just the facts! A photo never lies.
Ask yourself do the majority of pieces in your home bring you joy? If not, it’s time to consider how you might change the space.
Think of it as creating an environment where the things you love can shine. It can be very liberating to remove heavy window treatments – taking full advantage of a spectacular view.
Or… to pull up an area rug to discover how pretty the chair legs look on the bare wood floor.
You may also want to add new pieces. I replaced the sofa in my living room with two sectional pieces. The old sofa had a lot of rich visual weight, both in color and textural brocade fabric covering it. The new pieces were off white leather with sleek lines. When I viewed it, the new pieces seemed to visually float. So I decided to place a chunky textured sisal rug on top of my wall to wall carpeting in this seating area to ground it- a visual anchor if you will! Viola Fabulous!
Give thought to the weight of your pieces. Floating wall shelves, glass top cocktail tables, Lucite chairs… are all functional without feeling heavy or overwhelming!
To warm your spaces- add texture with woods, nubby rugs, patterned pillows and great artwork. Keep furnishing elegant, yet simple!
By designing a space where your pieces have room to breathe, you will also breathe easier!
